Dueling Roommates, a Weblog

Merry Christmas

December 25, 2008 · 2 Comments

My family and I woke up this morning to find the house plastered with snow and the power off. This didn’t disrupt our festivities too much because we had already opened all our presents the night before. Since no one believes in Santa in our family, we open all our presents Christmas Eve and sleep in Christmas morning. We had spent the nigh before playing fake guitar and drums and singing along with songs of artists we love. My brothers and I were actually really good about taking turns being that there were 5 (sometimes 6 if my dad decided to join in) of us playing and only 4 controllers…I mean instruments. It was fun. Also, not at all related to Christmas, I bought myself a new laptop. With all the extra crap it came to about 1,400 bucks, but my scholarship will cover most of that. That has been the most exciting part of my Christmas day…besides several hilarious games of Curses and a wild party I wish I, and those who saw the videos, would forget.

I love parmesan cheese on pretzels.

December 1, 2008 · 1 Comment

Today is December 1st and there is no snow. I even saw some people today wearing t-shirts. Not me, this ain’t St. George…I was totally wearing my winter coat. It’s been unusually warm here in Cedar. Warm and without snow.

It’s making me suspicious. It’s like we’re going to be lured into a false sense of security and then BAM! HISTORICAL SNOWSTORM OF DOOM!

I can totally see that happening.

So, thanks to the wonders of Facebook, I just found out that my Sifu had a another bay-bay while I was away at basic. This means that this kid is around 5  months old and I am just now finding out he exists. Sheesh. But that’s not what I wanted to talk about today.

While my brothers and I were coming back from West Jordan, we decided to pop in Within a Mile of Home (a really good Flogging molly album). While the CD was loading my radio displaid Tr 1, so we would know it was getting ready to play track on. Micah, my youngest brother, looked at the Radio and exclaimed, “Tr? what does that mean? Try Reading?” So I responded with, “Testimonial Receptionist.” And the madness continued from there. So from Filmore all the way back to Cedar, my brothers and I would choose two or three letters and come up with words that matched those letters. The goal was to try and make up something that made sense and was silly. The only hard set rules were this:

When choosing letter you must see them somewhere, either on a sign or a license plate or something.

You cannot use the same words twice in the same round.

Besides those, it was up to you to come up with the weirdest things. The award for Best Paired Words, goes to Ryan during the ICE round when he came up with Internal Combustion Engine. Proving once and for all  that Beattys are a pleasant mix of genius and bizarre antics.

DINONAPPED

November 6, 2008 · 2 Comments

he's the green, short one.

he

On the night of 6 November 2008, the green dinosaur of apartment 1 went missing. Last seen in the gray, possibly argyle, sweater of one Dr. Wolffe.

It is likely that Dr. Wolffe will be found trying to pick up girls using said dinosaur.
We have been notified of a call for ransom, made from an unrecognized phone number. Dr. Wolffe is requesting approximately 13 unmarked bills delivered to him at Lin’s Grocery. We warn the public against approaching him with or without the ransom, as he is highly unpredictable.

Size: Shorter than Henry, but as long as the whiteboard is wide. Less than 5 pounds.
Answers to “Dinosaur.”
Sounds like Godzilla, “Raaaaaawr! Raaaaaawr! Raaaaaawr!”

Message to Dinosaur from Alex: “Come hoooooooooooome!”

Sorry I took so long.

It’s begining to look a lot like Halloween, everywhere you look…

We decorated some more last night. Now we have 3 Halloween-themed paper lanterns above our couch, white lights around the perimeter of the ceiling, and orange lights around the window. This is in addition to the light-up pumpkin and a cauldron that sometimes has candy in it. I’m so happy! Hehe.

I think one of my roommates is going on another date. She’s the cute one. (Brittany’s cute too, but she’s not single like the rest of us). These are probably things I shouldn’t put on me blog, but I’m doing it anyway.

Weird realization: Today I checked to see when I can register for classes (October 30, this next Thursday), and I was informed that I am registering as a JUNIOR. That’s right. I’ll start my Junior..year? of college as a 19 year old sophomore. Haha. But I’ll turn 20 3 weeks in, so it’s all good. What’s weird is that I’m basically at the same place in my classes for my major (and haven’t actually started on my minor…), I just have more credits. Yay AP tests of doom!

I feel old.

Happy Friday! Next week is Halloween :D

Random @$$ Crap I Think About When I Should Be Doing Homework

October 13, 2008 · 4 Comments

I have been a bad roommate, and have failed to write a blog in about a week and a half (if we did punishments I would let Lex give me one…Probably have to rape all the dishes or something). But I sort of made up for it by buying a vacuum for the apartment. The one that came with the place is bulimic, and spits dust everywhere instead of sucking it up.

But this is not the random ass crap I was thinking about while avoiding homework (and yes, sensors are for titles only). I was thinking about my cereal. Now as you may or may not be aware of, Lex and I like to draw on packages, particularly cereal boxes.  This began in good ol’ Manzanita (may it rest in pieces) and has continues on here. So let me describe for you what my box looked like at first and what became of it after I got a hold of the markers.

Hmm…a spiffy link. I hope it works for you guys. Right now I don’t really care, but that’s mostly due to the fact that I was playing with Microsoft and not doing homework (I will probably care very much tomorrow when I come to look at this blog again to see if I have any readers left after such long breaks between blogs). Oh, and did I mention that we drew a child drowning the the huge bowl of cereal they always put on the cover of cereal boxes? Well, we did.

Sorry this post wasn’t very interesting. I’ll do better next time (probably a comic too-those are usually good). I’d like to thank the people at Western Family for making such mockable products, Microsoft word for having such fun shapes to insert into my word document, but not CSIS because I already knew how to make the shapes in Microsoft before I took that class.

tomorrow is the october month!

September 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I love October, as many of you possibly know. I don’t know why I love it, other than the changing leaves and beautiful weather (in St. George), but that’s really enough for me.

Yesterday was the 19th birthday of a roommate not Dueling. I made her 2 cakes (Rainbow Chip and German Chocolate, both from a box, I’m sorry.) and we had some people over. It was fun.

Kayleigh brought Angus back to our happy home. Now we have: 2 disembodied heads, 2 rock posters, 1 movie poster, 1 dinosaur, 1 “phone” and a pillow that is the Elephant Graveyard from the Lion King. That’s just our living room!

Any ideas on how to make the living room even more awesome?

Well, Fancy Meeting You Here!

September 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

I have come to realize that the titles of my blog posts have about as much to do with the content of my posts as the points have to do with the winner in ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway.’ That being said, I am not going to do anything about it.

So I have to apologize for being away. It was rather difficult for me to get more than 5 min of computer use at one time (once I got internet access that is), but never fear I now have many stories and experiences to share from Basic and Ait. In fact, by my third blog post, I’m sure you’ll all be saying “Hey, you’re out of basic now, so shut up about it already!” To which I’ll probably say, “I remember when DS Ruppert used to tell us shut up. Like this one time, when he… etc.”

That is what I’ll do for the last few lines of this post. Just one quick story to give you all a taste of what I’ve been up to that past few months. During our last formation of AIT, my platoon was being wild and rowdy as usual, though this time I was joining in. Most of the time I was good in formation, but because we were graduating the next day, I was being silly. The SGT in charge came out and was getting ready to have us come by the CQ desk and show our ID’s before bed. He made us do push ups and flutter kicks because we were noisy, but we were still laughing and being unruly (three guys even made a push up pyramid). So finally the SGT made us all run laps around the basketball court until the last group went in. The End.

Isn’t the Army great?

I told you to wait for September!

September 9, 2008 · 6 Comments

Some very important things have happened/will happen soon.

1:Internet in the apartment! I can blog now!

2:The return of Brittany, scheduled for next week. She can blog soon!

Now you can acutally pay attention to our blog again.

For now..

School’s going well, except for this one situation involving my English book. I ordered it the Friday before school started (22 August) and it shipped 6 September. I’m not kidding. I think it was backordered. It’s not scheduled to arrive until the 13th. That makes reading assignments a pain… It’s weird, I’ve never had this problem with Amazon before. My math book, on the other hand, came in fine time, but I don’t even need it for class until next week! Good Grief!

I’m in a photography class this semester, hopefully it will make me try harder and learn more about my photography. If you want to see any of it, you can check out http://dcwalker.deviantart.com/

Also, I’m actually socializing with my ward this year. Weird, I know. But I’m enjoying myself. And there’s people who like to stay up until all hours of the night, just like me! :D

Oh, and get this: Since someone decided to stay in Provo (I love you Nena, I promise!), Brittany and I have a different roommate than we planned. She’s pretty cool, and (here’s the crazy part) she’s a Mandi, too! It’s official, I’m going to always have a roommate named Mandi. Haha.

Best Wishes!
